Pocast 8 - we're under way!

We collected the small camera today and have filmed our first interview - exciting stuff! I was camera woman whilst Sarah interviewed Liane who played the part of a teacher. I think it went really well - the girls communicated brilliantly and the setting was ideal for this part of the podcast. I'm really looking forward to hitting the studio tomorrow to get the rest of the podcast recorded.

We've now pooled our resources and writen a comprehensive script and had our first run through. Everyone has their own copy of the script now to look at and make any amendments to their part over the weekend.

Podcast 6 - Let the scripting begin!

So the podcast is shaping up well. We've planned the structure of our documentary, the people to be interviewed and who will play these roles. At the moment we plan to have an introduction by me from the studio, where i will introduce the topic of childhood obesity along with some facts and figures demonstrating trends. I'll then introduce our special report from the man in the street. We will record this outside using the flip camera, where I will interview a 16-year-old student (Sarah) on how PE has changed during her time at secondary school and if any changes in food availability have occurred. Then I'll interview a passing parent (Liane) to see how her family's daily routine could be influencing her child's weight.

Back in the studio Sarah (our special reporter) will interview a teacher (Liane) on how the school curriculum incorporates knowledge of physical activity, good nutrition and after school sports clubs.

Finally, Liane will interview a representative from the Department of Children, Schools, and Families to find out how the Government is addressing these worrying trends.

The research has been split up between us so we have plenty of facts and figures to back up statements that we make.

Podcast 5 - The New Year

Happy New Year! There's little over a week now to get the podcast recorded and in the bag. I can't wait to get it all finished now, I'm just waiting for my Irish colleagues to get back to good old blighty so we can begin.

Podcast 4

Well the podcast meeting's will have to wait until after Christmas now - my colleagues are home in Ireland to celebrate with their families. So it's a few festive days off, then a bit of research, then some fancy technology so we can have a catch up whilst we're in different countries - exciting stuff! Have a Merry Christmas!

Podcast 3

Well, its been a funny old week, full of assessments, presentations and the like. This means that sadly the prep for the podcast has been put on the back burner for now. What we have decided though is that we will split the research between us to do over the Christmas break, then meet when we come back to script it and practice our interviewing. This will be done in the first week back of course - I'm really looking forward to writing up the Q&A! Next week we're deciding who will research which area, so don't forget to check back to find out who's doing what.

Podcast meeting: 2

Well the second meeting has gone really well. After finding some excellent research about the National Child Measurement Programme and the programs being done by the Department of Children, Schools and Families, we are targeting our programme to parents of school age children. What we'd like to do is interview a teacher, who can tell us how the curriculum has changed over a period of time (ten years maybe - this needs to be confirmed), focusing on the amount of physical education, sports time and playtime now scheduled. We'd also like to touch on the change in school dinners and and the food available at school in vending machines.

The second interview will be from a representative for the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), this will be a platform for them to highlight what they are doing to tackle childhood obesity - how are they helping parents?

The third interview will be with a parent, are they aware of the changes highlighted by DCSF? What is this their child's diet like at home? Do they exercise with them or limit TV time?Are they aware of the dangers of child obesity, after all they want to do the best for their child.

We would still like to us the AV suit but are keen to use the small camera to take some shots outside the studio to make it more interesting. This needs to be confirmed though!

Next we need to conduct more research and start drafting up some questions. Watch this space, Alex
